(More customer reviews)I purchased this after much debate about whether or not I needed a two quart ice cream maker or just go with the original Cuisinart $49.95 one. I am so glad i bought this one. It is so great. Easy to use, makes alot of ice cream,so sleek looking.
I have a tiny kicthen and everytime I turn around I am buying something that will clutter my counterspace, but I have to say this I don't mind. It is square, not to bulky and the cord fits nicely up inside the machine. It doesn't dangle or anything. It's right next to my KitchenAid.
I have made two recipes out of the manual that comes with the machine. I usually don't like "manual recipes" however, these are fantastic. The Mango Gelato was a huge hit with family and friends. One girl who doesn't like ice cream, liked it. The simple ice creams that dont require making a custard, you just mix all the ingredients together and freeze, I was thinking it would be terrible. It wasn't, so you can make ice cream in 30minutes from start to finish with those recipes.
I do keep the bowl in the freezer like others suggested with the smaller ice cream maker. It has been very useful to have it already frozen when I am ready to make ice cream.
As far as noise, it is not as quiet as I thought, but don't let that scare you. It's not like turning on a blender and leaving it running for 25 minutes. It's not an annoying noise. Not like the old ice cream makers with the ice and stuff. It is fun to watch it churn too. So the noise just fades to the background.
It's very interactive and a great thing to do with kids and company.
I really can't say enough good. One of the best appliance investments I have mad yet.

(More customer reviews)I bought this machine before any description or reviews were posted and hoped for the best. I was pleasantly surprised in what this machine can do. One trick to this machine though, is to definately freeze the liquid that you want to use in the machine first. Conveniently, this shaver comes with two round freezing containers which fit the shaver compartment exactly. I have tried shaving just plain ice first and then adding liquids, but because this machine generates snow, the snow tends to melt before you get a chance to enjoy it. If you freeze it first, the snow cones last a long time and are much better. All that you have to do is put ice into the shaving compartment and push down on the top. You do not have to push for very long or very hard and the entire ice block will be shaved. If you are looking for a manual snow cone machine, I would highly recommend this one as an inexpensive, reliable candidate.

(More customer reviews)I bought this machine at a big box retailer and I think it is worth what I paid for it which was 19.99. You can use your normal ice cubes (from the fridge or from trays) but it works best w/ the mold they give you, assuming you prefer a very very fine texture. The only bummer is that you only get 2 molds with the machine=( I do like that you don't have to use the snow cone holder and you can just place a cup or small bowl under the machine to save money on snow cone holders! I have only used this for one month about 2x a week and so far so good but we will see how long it lasts based on the the previous review. As a side note I have also tried this machine w/ frozen milk,soda and juice and it still works well. Have fun!

(More customer reviews)Don't buy this machine, or at least not from this seller. I ordered it and when I received it, it died within the first half hour of use. It would not turn back on. I sent it back and requested an exchange. They sent me another one. This one, as soon as you filled the reservoir with water and turned the unit on, it would start leaking all the water through the bottom. Sent it back again. Received a third one - same problem with the leaking (I suspect they just sent me the same machine), and of top of that, it was dirty when it arrived, even the power cord was filthy .
In the end I just gave up and trashed it. Huge waste of time and money.
Bottom line: the machine does not seem to be very reliable. If you are looking for a hassle-free way to make ice at home, neither this machine nor this vendor are the ones to choose.

(More customer reviews)OK, the Danby Ice N Easy makes ice as quickly as it advertises and you don't need a drain. However there are several things that you might want to know before buying one of these babies...
1. The ice tastes like plastic - I tried vinegar, baking soda and flushing the icemaker with gallons of water, but no joy.
2. The ice melts very quickly - it's not hard ice like you get from an icemaker that lives in your freezer. This has a nasty problem of then making your drink taste like plastic as well.
3. It frequently runs into problems like ice cubes getting lodged in places they shouldn't be, which automatically shut off the system until you attend to it - which means, it stops making ice.
4. When the bin gets full, the unit stops making ice. OK, this makes sense. However, there is no freezer unit in the icemaker, so the ice melts. If you don't need ice for several hours, then all you will have is a melted ice blob because the unit doesn't seem to sense when the ice has melted enough to start making more.
So, unless you enjoy watered down plastic tasting drinks as well as attending to the icemaker on an hourly basis to make sure that everything is still working, I would recommend against this machine and others like it. You just can't get good ice without a freezer component. Maybe this thing is good for boaters that just don't have any other options, but for the home I really wouldn't put up with it.

(More customer reviews)As this product had not been reviewed yet, I read several reviews for the Cuisinart ICE-20 Ice Cream Maker before making my decision to purchase this product. Many comments about the ICE-20 mentioned that the ice cream is the consistency of soft serve; some reviewers said it was too soft. I did not find that issue with the ice cream I made with this ice cream maker. I turned my freezer to the coldest setting and froze the bowl for 7 hours. I could not hear any liquid moving in the bowl at that point, so I assumed it was solidly frozen. I made the Simple Vanilla Ice Cream recipe from the booklet that came with the machine. After about 20 minutes, the ice cream was nicely textured and creamy. It wasn't as hard as the packed ice cream you purchase at the store, so I guess you might say the consistency was somewhere between soft serve and store-bought: firmer than soft serve, but not as firm as hard pack. As reviewers of the ICE-20 pointed out, if the ice cream was frozen as solidly as hard pack in the machine, it would be difficult to remove it from the container.
The ice cream is simply wonderful. It has a fresh, pure taste that outshines anything I could purchase from the store. I bought it mainly because I wanted to have control of my ingredients. I want to use organic products as much as possible and I want to experiment with soy ice creams; I have thought I might want to get away from dairy products altogether.
This product was listed as the newest version of the ICE-20 and as an upgrade that improves upon the ICE-20 while still keeping its popular features. I don't know what the upgrade consists of, but I can say that in 20-25 minutes, I had really excellent ice cream that I thought was the perfect consistency. (Since I posted this review, a commenter here has noted that the upgrade consists of a new paddle design, reducing the processing time by 25%, according to the manufacturer.) After freezing it for a couple of hours it was firmer and I liked it at that consistency, too. I was thinking about how great this ice cream would be with warm apple pie, because tasting it really is like tasting fresh vanilla cream. But we're a couple of months away from apple pie season! This product couldn't be simpler to use, and I think it will pay for itself fairly quickly in savings over the cost of premium purchased ice cream. And it just tastes better.

Whirlpool : ECKMF94 Automatic Ice Maker Kit Review

(More customer reviews)My 13-year old Kenmore 106.xx side-by-side was having problems with the ice maker overflowing into the ice bin (a common problem according to the web). After fiddling with the adjustment screw and cleaning all the contacts with no improvement, it was time to order a new unit. I confirmed on the Whirlpool site that the #ECKMF94 was the replacement for my model. The unit arrived and was exactly the same as the original, with the exception of the size and shape of the on/off arm. Installation took me less than five minutes. There was one 1/4" hexhead screw to remove that locks the unit in place. Two other screws are loosened so that the unit can be lifted up and out. Then you simply unplug the wiring harness. I swapped out the on/off arm with the original (simply pulled out at each end), reinstalled the old, deeper arm, and within a few hours, I had ice again.
Exact "replacement" units for this model from the retailer were well over a hundred dollars, yet this model came with an extra ice bin and a new supply valve that I'm saving for future use. This is a really simple replacement job that I think anyone can do. If this one lasts as long as the first unit, it should outlast the refrigerator.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this to go with my Mr. Coffee BVMC-FM1 20-Ounce Frappe Maker, since I was using so much ice.
The best way to use this is to turn it on when you need to make ice, unless you are going to need a lot in a hurry - then you can freeze the cubes ahead of time.
1) How much ice does it make?
Well, each time it makes a batch, it makes between one and two cups ... that's every 6-10 minutes. So in an hour, it will make 6-10 cups of ice.
2) How much ice does it hold?
I was able to empty 2 trays into a gallon freezer bag (barely), so I'd say that it holds about 1/2 gallon of ice before it automatically shuts off.
3) Do you need to keep it turned on?
You can, but you don't have to. Put the ice you've made into your freezer and turn it off. When you aren't going to use it for awhile, you drain any extra water out so that you can be sure your water to make the ice is fresh and healthy.
4) Will it keep ice frozen?
Actually, Yes. I don't know for how long, but the sides seem stay cool, and it is well insulated, so the ice I made the night before was "still" ice in the morning. The ice sits in a basket over the water supply, so if there is any melting, it drips down and is remade into ice again. I suggest for long-term use, that you simply remove the ice and place it in your freezer.
5) Do you need anything special?
No. You take it out of the box, wash the parts, add water, and turn it on. I'm using purified water, but that's for flavor, NOT because it's required. And, just a "green" note - for the environment and to keep a little green in your pocket - don't buy bottled water for this - it's a lot cheaper (and no bottles to recycle) if you use a purifier or purifying pitcher.
6) Is it noisy?
You can hear the ice cubes clink into the basket every few minutes while it is running. They freeze around little poles, so the only sound is that of water dripping and a small fan which removes the heat (kind of like the one on a refrigerator).
It's a nice solution for those of us who don't have an ice maker in our freezer and who don't have the patience to keep filling those little ice trays to make enough ice!
***Updated June 28 I have noted that with our recent heat wave, that the ice does melt, however, as I mentioned above, it simply melts into the bottom and then the machine remakes the ice. Not only am I using it for my frappes, but I also found it awesome when I froze four gallons of ice for a large event where I knew I'd need more ice on hand.

I was hoping that this unit would crush ice further to make more of a slushie ice. To my wife's delight, this unit crushes ice to a fairly uniform 1/4" and under piece size, perfect for crunching. The ice chunks end up soft and easy on the teeth, and, like a slushie, hold onto soda or juice for flavor. The unit is used two to three times a day and seems pretty rugged.

(More customer reviews)We've been using the ice maker for a few weeks now, and overall it works very well. Take note of it's size (roughly 12"w x 14"d x 15" h) if you're planning on using it as a counter-top unit -- it's compact but not tiny. It is also louder than expected when the compressor cycles on (a humming / buzzing sound roughly as loud as a person talking), but thankfully this only lasts a few minutes every half-hour or so, so it's not a huge deal. It makes ice in three different sizes, and the ice is good and clear (after an initial cleaning step, see below). It works quickly, making ice within 15 minutes of turn-on and constantly replenishing the supply as it slowly melts in the ice collection bucket if you don't use the ice; as you use up the ice, you simply refill the water supply.
Two other minor negatives: first, the manufacturer uses super-adhesive blue tape to immobilize parts inside the unit during shipment. It is impossible to get rid of the sticky residue the tape leaves behind once removed, although it doesn't seem to affect the taste of the ice or anything. A less adhesive tape, such as a masking tape, would probably serve the same purpose without leaving a residue, however. Just a minor complaint. The other thing is that the unit had an extremely strong, very unpleasant smell initially. It smelled like plastic / rubber, and this smell transferred to the ice, which made using the ice disagreeable and probably inadvisable. Their support staff were helpful, however, and suggested running the machine through a couple of cycles with a mix of water and vinegar. This was a great idea and got rid of the smell almost entirely. The ice now smells and tastes perfect -- that is, it is odorless and tasteless, as ice should be!

(More customer reviews)We have purchased several snow cone machines over the years and this is my favorite!!! Each Spring, I make snow cones for 4 classrooms full of children (over 100 children). Using the Hamilton Beach Icy Treats Maker, this has been our best year! Also, we often will do snowcones out in the driveway after school and we'll have a dozen or so kids stop by.
I purchased two of these machines and had them running side by side in the classroom. I was able to make snow cones for 25-30 kids in 20 minutes. I love the cup/bowl that catches the ice. If you have leftover ice or want to make ahead, you can throw this bowl in the freezer to use the shaved ice later. Also the easy on/off on this machine is nice. If you put in ice that is the right size (some store bought ice is too big), then there shouldn't be too much trouble with jamming. Once or twice I had to arrange the ice because a larger piece was stuck. I LOVE that most of this machine goes straight into the dishwasher! Also, seems very safe to me. The kindergarten class was running both machines and had no trouble!

(More customer reviews)I bought this for my youth group and the kids say it's as good or better shaved ice than we buy up town at the Paradise Snow stand. The machine is fast and works well with Sonic ice. Did have some problems with larger peices of ice getting stuck and having to turn the machine over to get it unstuck. It does make a mess as it shoots the ice out fast! Bst have the chute area covered completely by the cup or bowl. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a good ice machine as a fairly reasonable price for groups.

(More customer reviews)Our new ice maker is doing what it advertised, making ice and lots of it. Problem is, the ice tastes like melting plastic. In spite of running the clean cycle several times (the instructions say once), cleaning the unit with baking soda, and leaving a box of baking soda in the unit over night, our ice still reeks and tastes of plastic. Thinking it might be our tap water, we ran Evian through it.
The ice still tastes like plastic.
Hopefully, this will pass over time, but buyer beware...if you want to use your ice maker immediately, think again :(. Also, the maker doesn't store ice. Not a huge problem in our case as we have an extra freezer, but just be sure you're aware of that before you hit "buy".
