Norpro Ice Pop Maker Review

Norpro Ice Pop Maker
Average Reviews:

This product is poorly designed. I am very sorry I bought it.
The metal top has slits of the precise dimensions of the popsicle sticks, but once the sticks are in liquid, they expand, of course, which makes them impossible to pull out of the lid!!!! The lid, in turn, contracts, squeezing the sticks even further, so to get them out, you have to strip the sticks through the metal holes. I am surprised that no leeway was built into this part of the product, and that the materials chosen, metal and wood, while nice and recyclable, were not more carefully evaluated for performance in changing temperatures. Perhaps the mold can be used without the lid, but then the sticks will fall over until the liquid freezes.

Kalorik ICBM30155 Silver-Spray Portable Ice-Cube Maker Review

Kalorik ICBM30155 Silver-Spray Portable Ice-Cube Maker
Average Reviews:

I was a bit concerned about buying this because the reviews were not too good. But it arrived on time and in good condition. As one reviewer pointed out, the user guide leaves a lot to be desired; I still can't figure out what one grey, flat rectangular part is supposed to do (but not using it doesn't seem to be a problem, so it can't be too important). There's enough info in it to get the process going, though.
For some reason, I expected it to start making ice faster, but it does take awhile (at least 30 minutes or more) for the unit to reach freezing temperature, so don't give up too soon. The ice it produces is clear and tastes "restaurant" great (I used bottled drinking water in the reservoir), and I am very finicky about the taste of water and ice. I'd read that with some other ice makers users had needed to run vinegar through the system to get rid of a funny taste at first, but that is definitely not required for this unit.
You'll need to transfer the ice cubes to a container that you keep in the freezer to keep them frozen. The ice making unit is just for making the ice, not for storing it.
This is a pricey solution to eliminate the monotony of filling ice trays day after day after day, but I'm thrilled to be able to do so.

For high-volume, high-quality ice cubes from a portable machine, turn to this convenient countertop appliance. The easy-to-use ice maker produces up to 33 pounds of ice cubes per day--great for keeping guest's refreshments chilled at a weekend work conference or at a large party with family and friends. Change the size of the ice cubes with the simple press of a button--choose from 1/4-inch wide to 1/3-inch wide. The appliance also comes equipped with a fluidization system that ensures perfectly transparent ice cubes. Its internal fluidization system--a process normally only found in restaurant ice machines--freezes ice cubes in thin, transparent layers instead of one large block, which ensures crystal-clear results, eliminating any output of less desirable cloudy cubes. In addition to its portable design, the handy machine offers quick start-up times as well. Simply add water to the reservoir and plug it in--the unit will produce up to 28 square ice cubes in the first 18 minutes. Thoughtfully designed, the water reservoir removes for easy refilling, and an audible signal indicates when the 2-1/5-pound-capacity ice bin has reached capacity and/or when the 1-2/3-quart water reservoir needs to be re-filled. A full ice tank or empty water tank will cause the machine's compressor to stop automatically for safety and peace of mind. Other highlights include rugged construction with all internal screws made of stainless steel, integrated side handles for secure transport, and an attractive silver-spray finish. The 195-watt countertop ice maker measures 13-1/2 by 11-3/4 by 14 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

GE WR30X10093 Refrigerator Icemaker Kit Review

The print for my refrigerator showed the part #WR30X0327 as the icemaker I needed. Apparently it's obsolete and this #WR30X10093 was supposed to be the direct replacement. The adapter cord made the complete cord assembly way too long so had to do some maneuvering to get all the cord placed in the back so it could be mounted. Then the basket would not slide back in as this model hangs to low.
Then I get on here and find I can't return it. Great system!!

Oster BVCB07-Z 6-Cup Glass Jar 7-Speed Blender, Stainless Steel Review

Oster BVCB07-Z 6-Cup Glass Jar 7-Speed Blender, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

I make frozen fruit smoothies every day and I needed a blender that could handle that sort of heavy duty use. I bought one of these at Costco after seriously considering both the Blendtec and The VitaMix machines. I am so glad I bought this one. It has proven to be a great blender. Every morning I toss in frozen strawberries, bananas, pineapple, blueberries, oranges, and other types of fruit. To that I add protein powder and milk, secure the top and use the automatic (this lovely machine shuts itself off) setting to make a pitcher of really great, icey cold, somewhat frozen smoothies. Some days the mixture is so thick that we have to eat the it with spoons! Once in awhile I have to stop the blender and stir the contents because a piece of frozen fruit gets stuck. But that is a rare occurrence (the reversing blades are great at keeping things moving and blending).
So why do I give this blender 4 stars instead of five? It is noisy. In my opinion it is very noisy. I can and do live with the noise because it performs so well. Well enough in fact that, I purchased a second one in case Oster decides to stop making this model.

Pre-programmed settings - including time and function - provide one touch operation, so you can let the blender do the thinking.Seven speeds and high and low pulse options give you amazingly precise control at the touch of a button. And Low, Medium and High manual settings provide even more options for blending a variety of food and beverages from frozen drinks to dips, sauces to smoothies, soup to nuts. My fridge's ice maker turns out crescent shaped ice cubes and they don't work well with this machine. The ice went round and round in the shaving chamber but rarely engaged the shaving blade. There just isn't enough downward pressure to force the ice onto the blade.
Update: I went out and bought some ice cube trays hoping that the size or shape of the ice cube was a factor. No luck, this thing still doesn't work so I'll be returning it.

Disney Mickey Ice Shaver & Snow Cone Machine in Red Review

Disney Mickey Ice Shaver and Snow Cone Machine in Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Disney Ice Shaver Snow Cone machine is Cheap Cheap Cheap. I purchased for several reasons:
1. I liked the style.
2. I liked the color.
3. I wanted something cheap to try out before I spent big money on a 'real' snow cone machine
First impressions...
Opening the box, I found that everything was well packaged in formed Styrofoam. The accessories fit into their locations well and are essential to complete the look of 'Mickey'.
The fit and style of this unit are pretty good for a completely plastic appliance. Mickey is light and looks good on the counter with the red/white accents (including the bright red cord - nice touch). This machine is pretty small and compact and can be put in an area 9" x 7" on the counter. I put him in the corner of my island for easy reach since we have snow cones everyday.
Accessories:
1. Snow Cone Cup Holder
2. Two flavor/syrup containers
3. Snow cone shaping cup/snow cone holder
There are two things to consider with these accessories:
1. Will you use 'standard' sized cups for your snow cone treats or another type of cup?
2. Will you make/store the syrup for your dessert in the ear cups?
To answer the first question, you need to understand how large the cup holder actually is. I purchased reusable plastic snow cone cups with an integral straw from Walmart for use with mine. These 'barely' fit in the holder and tilt slightly away from the base because there isn't quite enough room to fit them onto the holder. This is a minor issue since the cup still catches most of the ice. If you want to have a full to overflowing snow cone like my wife, this may bother you.
The size of the snow cone cup/top shaper is also small. This is designed for a small snow cone cup (5 oz or so) and not anything larger. It has styled mickey ears on each side of the cup that interfere with compacting the ice into a nice dome that we all expect when having a snow cone. Also, as a snow cone cup, it is very small (it's use is further diminished by it's lack of fit into the snow cone holder).
To answer the second question, the two syrup/topping 'ears' that sit on perches on either side of the hopper are pointless in my opinion, but do an excellent job 'looking pretty'. these two cups are difficult to work with and quickly become so sticky they must be washed to remove residue from previous snow cones. Though these fit will with the style and location for use, they do not fit into the base very well. As a result, I have sent these things bouncing on the floor many MANY times during use of the machine. Operation:
The Mickey Ice Shaver is a journeyman snow cone maker. It is loud (100dB at the point of use - use ear plugs if you are going to make more than one), it makes shaved ice slowly (about one snow cone per 90 seconds - when it is working correctly), and must be completely full of ice for the machine to work well. This last statement is intended to be a guide since it will technically make ice with less ice in the hopper, but something about the design does not allow the ice to move quickly into position when there is less weight pushing it into position.
The metal blade that does the work on this device is replaceable and can be accessed by taking the hopper screw out. This blade does not wear quickly and should last the life of the machine for the average user. If you are a snow cone fanatic, be prepared to sharpen/replace the blade. It is not a typical razor blade, so think about using a knife sharpener to perform this task.
Speaking of the full hopper required for it to work well, after I have made my last snow cone of the session, I place an empty snow cone cup under the nozzle to catch the dripping water that inevitably comes when the ice inside the hopper melts. (I learned this the hard way after seeing water all over the counter). This is a minor thing and should be expected of a machine that has no basin. The water dripping out of the machine does not fall on the electric parts and shouldn't cause an issue with operation. If you do want to get the ice out of the machine, there is a removable cover to access the hopper. After removing the cover, it is possible to invert the machine and remove the ice or, by unscrewing the hopper retaining screw (plastic wing screw), the ice can be removed by hand. Since the machine is so light and portable, I usually pop the top and pour the ice out if I have time (I usually let it drain into a cup, since I am not sure when the next snow cone will be made and the ice in the hopper may be useful minutes after I think we are done).
After several snow cones...
If you have a large family, you will probably be making more than one snow cone per child per day. If this is something that you only bring out for parties, be prepared to buy another machine. After 4-5 snow cones in a row, the motor is HOT and the mechanism is at it's limit. Although I was unable to get it to overheat with 6 snow cones placed through it continuously (motor never shut off), I have had the machine over heat and stop on me after 3 cones fairly close together.
If you enjoy the style and are an occasional snow cone consumer who wants a cheap, stylish machine that doesn't take up much counter space, this may be the machine for you.
If you have a large group eating multiple snow cones everyday, or if you desire something for parties, spend a bit more money and step up to a machine with better performance.
Style: 5 out of 5 stars
Quality: 3 out of 5 stars
Price: 5 out of 5 stars
Value: 5 out of 5 stars
Overall: 4 out of 5 Stars (mainly because it is so cheap!)

The little Snowie shave ice machine is great and easy to use, One of the best features is that it uses regular ice cubes and not a chunck of ice made in a mold, so you always have ice ready to go any time you want to use it. We have used ours almost everyday since we recieved it. The only problem I have with it, is if you don't hold the cup just right some ice blows out around the top of it and onto your hand but after a few times you learn how to minamize this.

EdgeStar Full Size Ice Maker - 65 lb. Capacity Review

EdgeStar Full Size Ice Maker - 65 lb. Capacity
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great product. I've been using it for about 30 days.
Lot of ice and might do very will in a Physical Therapy setting.
The machine makes about 30 ice cubes every 15 minutes and will continue production until the bin has about 25 pounds of ice (two large bags), then it stops production. Cubes are clear ice (hard) about 1" in diameter and 1" long, bullet shaped and hollow. It is noisey dumping cubes into the plastic storage bin. The storage bin is not refrigerated, so over time the cubes will melt and be replaced by new cubes. This keeps the cubes from sticking together. Ice production resumes as the ice level melts down or you remove ice. Over a 24 hour period I was able to fill three medium sized ice chests buy emptying the bin about every eight hours.
The only problem I've had was when installing the water line saddle I did not 100% open the water valve. This was starving the machine for water and the result was first it made a couple of dumps of milky colored ice and eventually a large block of ice formed on the cooling coils. Once I got it thawed out and deteremed the machine was starved for water I opend the valve 100% and it has worked like a dream every since. With some testing I determined the saddle valve (purchased at Lowes) didn't fully open until the last two full turns.
How do you know if it's starved for water? The water tray must be full up to the draini line. Therefore, the water tray needs to maintain between 1.5" and 2" of water in it during the ice manufacturing cycle. During this cycle the machine sprays water on the overhead cooling coils. If it can't maintain between 1.5" and 2" of water, during the spray cycle the spray water stream doesn't quite reach the coils properly. Eventually it will run low on water and start pumping an air/water mixture. The result will either be milky colored ice or eventually a block of ice. If you see air bubbles being sucked into the water pump tube then you don't have enough water in the water tray. The reason is most likey the machine is not getting enough water during the fill cycle. It will makes about 25 pounds of clear ice every 8 hours. I installed it in the basement, so the ambient air is about 70 degrees all the time. If the room air temperature is higher then the ice production would be a little less.
BTW, I am running "soft" water in the machine (water softener" and it still makes clear, hard ice. I did see a post that soft water would result in white ice. The only time I got white or milky colored ice is when it was sucking air because the water level was too low.
I have tendonitis and use it to make an ice bath twice a day to remove inflamation in both arms. I do this by filling a 2.5 fool long PVC pipe (6" diameter) with ice and water. This machine might well meet the needs of a physical therapy group that might do something similar to what I use it for.

West Bend 68303 2-3/4-Quart Iced-Tea Maker Review

West Bend 68303 2-3/4-Quart Iced-Tea Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this brewer from Target although you can also get it from Hammacher Schlemmer. After I brewed the first pitcher of tea, I set it on the counter and the entire bottom fell out of the pitcher. There was hot, wet sugar everywhere: on the counters, inside the drawers and the cabinets, and on all their contents. I learned that as often as you try to clean up wet sugar, you will always have sugar left. I called the company and asked if this happened frequently. The rep said that it did not happen often, but that it did happen. I asked if it would happen again, and she assured me that it would not happen with the pitcher she was sending. And the new one has been fine. I think that if I were buying one of these machines that I would ask for the unbreakable pitcher to be sent before I tried it.
However, there are many other problems too. When sugar is put in the basket, the company recommends that you wet the basket so that the sugar won't fall into the pitcher prematurely. That is not the problem. The problem is that the sugar does not completely dissolve while the tea is brewing through it. So you end up with a glob of wet sugar still in the basket. The baskets are badly made so that tea and sugar collect in the bottom between two pieces plastic in each basket. So when you try to remove the baskets after brewing, tea and sugar pour from under the baskets. My solution to this is to always have a paper towel under the pitcher. Not pretty. Also during this process, tea and especially sugar splash on to the sides of the tea maker. There is a brew strength dial, but I don't think that this makes any difference. I wanted this set because I think that it looks better than the others available and the pitcher is glass. But the problems far outweigh the attractive looks and anyway that is greatly diminished by the paper towels and the splashes all down the sides.
My advice is to stick with the Mr Coffee 2 quart unit which I have used for years with no problems at all. The bright aqua-ness of it seems so minor in hindsight.
Update... The new "unbreakable' pitcher has just cracked. This is the second one. Do NOT buy this pitcher!!

Coffee drinkers have their automatic brewers, why shouldn't tea drinkers? Ideal for family gatherings or summer picnics, this versatile machine makes it easy to brew delicious iced tea. Use the machine's sweetener chamber to conveniently dissolve sweetener into the beverage, or remove it for an unsweetened variety. The iced-tea maker's reusable stainless-steel filter works with both bagged and loose tea, and the machine shuts off automatically at the end of the brewing cycle for safety and peace of mind. Other highlights include a 2-3/4-quart plastic pitcher, an "on" indicator light, a handy drip tray, and a helpful instruction manual for getting started. Margaritaville DM1000 Frozen Concoction Maker Review

Margaritaville DM1000 Frozen Concoction Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I distinctly remember making fun of the Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker when I first saw it advertised in the Front Gate catalog. ("Who's going to buy a three hundred dollar blender on steroids?!? Hah-hah-hah...") Imagine my horror when my wife announced that she wanted one for her birthday. Looks like that "who" was going to be "me".
The vast majority of positive reviews on Amazon calmed my fears a bit and I ordered one up. As usual, Amazon delivered quickly and it was unpacked and setup in a couple minutes.
Exactly true to its claims, the thing actually makes perfect consistency margaritas and any other frozen drinks you can think of. I think I like it more than my wife. It has a "power tool" vibe to it that guys appreciate. Spinning blades and high speed motors. What could possibly go wrong?
There's a few things/tips to be aware of:
1) It's BIG. It just barely clears the front of our kitchen cabinets and is too tall to go under them. Pretty heavy to lift onto a high shelf too.
2) It does a more consistent job making a "full" pitcher than just a single drink. Having a lot of ice in the hopper works best; putting a single glass full of ice in will be too watery if you use the automatic cycle. To compensate, for a single drink I manually hold the "shave" switch on for ~4-5 seconds prior to starting the automatic mix cycle. Works great.
3) The shaved ice melts faster than cubes when it touches glass, so I've taken to icing the pitcher to keep the glass cool (or at least filling it with cold water for a few seconds) before adding the liquid ingredients. Unlike plastic pitchers on commercial drink makers, the glass (thick glass at that) can transfer a lot of heat. Popping it straight out of a hot dishwasher onto the stand will give you a mighty runny margarita.
4) Although "dishwasher safe" the lid to our pitcher turned a funny mottled brown/green color after one cycle in the wash. Not sure if it was the heat or the detergent or what, but after that it was slightly brittle and generally "weird". A call to the 800 customer service number yielded a free replacement which we just hand wash now.
All in all, it works as advertised and is a real crowd pleaser at parties. A good gizmo.

Keep the party flowing by serving up restaurant-quality frozen concoctions with this unique, easy-to-use appliance. Other highlights include simple front-access controls, a stable footprint, an easy-to-clean design, and a generous handle and drip-free spout on the glass jar for graceful serving. The device specifies in its instructions that it requires its canister to be stored in a freezer at a temp of -10C/3F or lower. Notice, this is lower than the 0C/32F to make ice. If your freezer will not go this low, don't buy the product, if you don't know how low your freezer temp will get check before you buy the product. If the canister is not frozen at a low enough temperature the product will not perform satisfactorily. This information should be made clear before purchase.

Refrigrator Automatic Ice Maker Kit Review

Refrigrator Automatic Ice Maker Kit

If you buy this part, make sure you give it 24 hours to work. I was expecting it to start working right away as soon as I installed it. I was very frustrated when I didn't see the dial start to spin when installed. I actually took the part out and sent it back thinking it was defective. Well it turns out the part has an internal thermostat that has to get cold to the right temperature in order to kick the icemaker on. They failed to leave out this very important bit of information. The common lay person would never know this. So don't send it back, give it 24hrs to work!

Margaritaville DM0500 Bahamas 36-Ounce Frozen-Concoction Maker Review

I picked up the DM0500 model after some extensive shopping around for one of the Margaritaville blenders. This one doesn't hold as much ice as the others but it holds enough for one pitcher worth of drinks. It also doesn't have the fancy buttons that the others have that denote "mudslide," "daiquiri," or "Margarita"(I've heard there is little difference in these settings).
That is the main difference between this model and the others. It had the standard shave only/ blend only switch and a start button( more on that later).
The blender itself is very nice it has some great artistic accents like behind the pitcher on the machine is a metal engraving of a palm tree and a sea plane. The construction is easy and it works right out of the box. All you have to do is attach the ice hopper and you're finished.
Some of the negatives though are that the metal ice chute (that's what I call it) shifts up and down so that it fits perfectly and tightly to the pitcher which is nice except that it doesn't seem like it is extremely sturdy but it hasn't broken yet so I guess I should report that if it does.
The Start button is nice it makes a drink about the consistancy of a smoothie from smoothie king. I enjoyed it alot. The ice hopper shreds ice like a dream and the seal on the top if fantastic. I noticed some people complaining that it spilled and I have had no such problem.
I would highly recommend this model over the others for it's reasonable price and great offerings.

Kick start any party by serving up restaurant-quality frozen concoctions with this unique, easy-to-use appliance. Far more than just an ordinary blender, the unit automatically shaves ice and blends up to 36 ounces of a favorite frosty drink, all at the touch of a button. Simply fill the top reservoir with ice and pour the ingredients into the glass jar. The machine utilizes two motors, one for shaving (not crushing) the ice and the second motor for blending the drinks. Shaved ice ensures better drink consistency--no more chunks or watery drinks. The blender's automatic shave n' blend cycle automatically makes a perfect 36-ounce batch of frozen margaritas.
For party guests who like thicker or thinner drinks, the manual "shave only / blend only" toggle switch allows for easily customizing beverages by adding more shaved ice or blending a little bit longer. The ice reservoir holds enough ice to make one full pitcher of margaritas in one automatic cycle, while melting ice is channeled into a rear reservoir to avoid watered-down drinks. The blending jar and its components clean up easily by hand or in the dishwasher, and the rest of the unit quickly wipes clean. Accessories include a Margaritaville shot glass, a quick start guide, a frozen-drink recipe guide, an instruction manual, and four drink coasters in a tin salt tray. The tropical color, nautical design elements, and chrome accents make the appliance the perfect party enhancer. The 450-watt frozen concoction maker measures approximately 14-2/5 by 8-2/7 by 18 inches.

Cuisinart ICE-35 2-Quart Wooden Ice Cream Maker Review

Cuisinart ICE-35 2-Quart Wooden Ice Cream Maker
Average Reviews:

Pros:
Excellent appearance, one of the few appliances I have out on my counter, get compliments/questions frequently.
Works well (makes a great cinnamon chocolate ice cream!)
Great warranty
Very durable ice bowl
Cons:
Even with a solid freeze of the bowl you'll need to put the ice cream in the freezer for an hour or two afterwards. Just too soft for more than a little taste.
Slightly cheap inner ice cream mixer apparatus (plastic on plastic gears/blades)
Any heavy mixings added towards end still fall to bottom due to soft consistency and poor stirring
