Rival 8804-BL 4-Quart Oval Ice Cream Bucket, Blue Review

Rival 8804-BL 4-Quart Oval Ice Cream Bucket, Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Works as advertised, makes fine ice cream. Instructions are brief and clear. Well-made for the price. About the size of a small wastebasket, fits easily into one side of a double sink. I think the size is an excellent compromise between the countertop units and the big churns.
The can is thin deep-drawn aluminum with no seams at the bottom to trap salt (like a soda can, but not nearly that thin). People have complained of it getting pinholes from corrosion during storage, but I think this must be from forgetting to rinse all salt from the bucket, or not drying can or bucket thoroughly. I would recommend storing the can upside down in the bucket so that any possible moisture/corrosion will be at the rim where it will do little harm, but the can will still be protected from dents.
The motor is silent but the gear train is noisy, because it's all spur gears. All gears but the final one are die-cast zinc, and the final looks like filled nylon or acetal. Gears and shafts are greased with white grease. I believe they should hold up nicely in home use. Motor is fan-cooled and has a self-resetting overheat protector.
All in all a good, lightweight but honest product that should last well if you get all the salt and moisture off after use.

DeLonghi America, Inc IC8000 Ice Creamery 1.5 Qt. Capacity Review

DeLonghi America, Inc IC8000 Ice Creamery 1.5 Qt. Capacity
Average Reviews:

We purchased our DeLonghi after sampling ice cream made from my Sister-In-Law's Cuisnart machine. Nice fresh ice cream unlike the old days where you had to manually crank a handle...and the results were mixed at best.
Comparing the DeLonghi to the Cuisnart....the DeLonghi is much quiter. And that is a big plus when you have visitors who you don't want to be disturbed and want to entertain. Also the texture of the ice cream is better.
Replying to another customer review appearing for this machine...it DOES make treats with milk and skim milk. All without all the preservatives you will find in over the counter frozen treats from stores. ...
Our first batch didn't turn out great...but it was related to not being familar with our new machine. Ever since...success.
The secret to making a firm treat is to mix your ingredients beforehand and freeze/refrig before adding to the ice cream maker. Add it to the machine and let it work away. Then if you prefer a firmer treat, freeze further for a few hours to overnight.
Another suggestion is to buy the Ben and Jerry ice cream guide. It also states the innovation which I just mentioned above...and gives you many other helpful tips which will solve any issues you might encounter.
Gelato, Sorbet, Ice Cream, Smoothies. All came out well.

Aroma AIC-204EM 4-Quart Wood-Barrel Ice-Cream Maker, Natural Wood Review

Aroma AIC-204EM 4-Quart Wood-Barrel Ice-Cream Maker, Natural Wood
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was actually searching for other customer reviews in hopes of finding some helpful hints for this contraption. We purchased this product at Target about a year ago because we had relatives who had such good luck with their old fashioned crank-style ice cream churns. We liked the classic design and the electric mixing option. But we've had quite a bit of difficulty with this. The electric mixer seems to mix the cream too fast--often producing an almost "foamy" result. The crank method produces better results, but the crank mixing mechanism makes a lot of noise and doesn't work smoothly...and it takes a looong time for the ice cream to freeze (over 45 minutes for just a small batch--our salt/ice mixture tested 25 degrees). I was hoping I would find some positive reviews that would be helpful...but we bought a Cuisinart 2 qt. electric Ice Cream Maker tonight instead. :-( Anyone with positive experiences, please review as we'd be happy to dig this thing out and use it for company if we could know there was a way to get good ice cream in the end! Otherwise, I'm afraid that this product had a lot of potential, but is rather impractical--especially considering the fact that more user-friendly electric ice cream machines can be bought at a similar price.

Salton YM9 1-Quart Yogurt Maker Review

Salton YM9 1-Quart Yogurt Maker
Average Reviews:

Look...making yogurt isn't that compicated. All you need is a good starter culture, a stable and appropriate temperature and clean equipment so you get the proper cultures growing. The Salton 1-quart does a beautiful job and you can't beat the price. If you've never made your own yogurt before, this is the unit to buy. Don't spend tons of money on a piece of equipment that does nothing more than keep the milk warm for a few hours. Realize, it is much easier to just buy yogurt at the supermarket. But if you don't like keep buying little plastic containers, and if you don't mind going to just a little effort to make your own foods, you'll enjoy making yogurt. I like to use milk straight from the bulk tank at a local dairy farm and either organic Stonyfield (NH)or organic Butterworks (VT) yogurt as a starter. Homemade yogurt doesn't always have the homogenous and solid consistency of store-bought, but I've had very good results (quite comparable with commercial yogurts) with the Salton, plus I can use whatever flavorings I want from real maple syrup to my favorite jams. I even use the yogurt in place of sour cream. The possibilities with home-made yogurt are almost unlimited!

Juiceman JM1000M Juiceman Express Junior Silver Metallic Juice Extractor and Food Processor Review

Juiceman JM1000M Juiceman Express Junior Silver Metallic Juice Extractor and Food Processor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This juicer is easy to use, easy to clean up (almost every part is dishwasher safe), and packs a punch. While it's not some giant monster unit that will take over your entire counter, it's still an appliance- around somewhere in between the size of a blender and food processor.
My husband and I just took out of the box (it was mostly assembled in the box- it comes with the base plus about four additional parts that snap into place), quickly cleaned the machine, plugged it in, and away we went.
We threw in a handful of grapes, a whole apple, four carrots, two pieces of celery, and a small handful of spinach (what we had in the fridge at the moment). Everything was put into the juicer whole (except for the apple, which was the size of a softball and had to be cut in half) and fit fine. Within a flip of a switch and an instant to work, my husband had a HUGE tumbler of a frothy, cold, creamy fruit and veggie smoothie. And it actually tastes really good. I've never been a big fan of juicing, (I drink a lot of tea) but I do have to admit, there's a serious refreshing and crisp quality to a fresh glass of juice. It's definitely better than the stuff you get from the store. And as long as you have more glasses to put under the spout, you can continue juicing as long as you like.
Just a few small complaints- food can pop up from the shoot when the machine is running, and it's a little messy when disassembling for cleanup. But that's to be expected.
This is NOT a machine that grinds up seeds and pits and the typically "unedible" bits of fruit and veggies, just so you know. Most of the pulp from the fruits and veggies were in the receptacle (the long black piece on the side of the unit) but a few bits ended up in the bowl, easily cleaned out with a quick rinse. There was very little "grainy" pulp in the smoothie we made. I tend to dislike pulpy drinks and I didn't notice much pulp at all- the smoothie was incredibly smooth without being thin or watery.
The pulp, which can be used in recipes and baking, was a little moist, but not drippy, so the juicer did a very nice job of extracting the juice from the fruits and veggies.
So, in about three minutes, with a handful of stuff we already had in our fridge, we made a delicious smoothie. And cleanup was just as fast and easy as making the juice. I'm really very impressed with this machine. I'm kind of a beverage gadget queen, and I've had everything from smoothie machines to blenders to shaved ice makers and this is the most impressed I've been with any of them. Never thought a juicer might inspire me to start experimenting more in my kitchen, but it has.
The recipe book is a little uninspired (mainly a stapled together booklet with some "intro to juicing" suggestions in it), but it's a good start. I think the key is to just try different things and see what you like.
If you're looking for a new way to make some nice treats for your family, this may be your gadget. I'm glad my husband was interested in this gadget, it may actually the one I wind up using regularly, and for the long haul.

A nice addition to any healthy kitchen, this fruits-and-vegetables electric juicer produces fresh juice with a simple push of a button. Just place a glass or pitcher under the spout, insert fruit or vegetables into the large 3-inch wide-mouth feed chute (cutting over-sized items into smaller pieces if necessary), and gently and slowly press down using the included pusher. The machine accommodates anything from pineapple, melon, apples, oranges, and grapes to tomatoes, celery stalks, cucumbers, and carrots. The unit comes equipped with a powerful 450-watt motor, which propels its heavy-duty blade for maximum juice extraction in a minimal amount of time. Choose from two speed settings--low or high, or push the Perfect Prep button for precise control over the consistency. Even more, the multifunctional juice extractor can be used as a food processor thanks to the included extra-large 9-cup work bowl. Other highlights include an extra-large 54-ounce pulp container, a wipe-clean user-friendly control panel, four feet for stability, and dishwasher-safe parts for quick cleanup. The multifunctional juicer measures approximately 8-2/3 by 17-2/3 by 18 inches.

Waring Pro YM350 Professional Yogurt Maker Review

Waring Pro YM350 Professional Yogurt Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked this up at a B&M store because I couldn't find the Cuisipro yogurt maker locally, and I didn't want to wait for shipping.
Overall, it's a great yogurt maker. Very easy to use, and it makes delicious yogurt. I really like that it comes with two different sizes of jars, so you can choose to make either individual servings or two larger amounts. Also, mine turns itself off when the cycle is done, although I can't find mention online or in the instruction book about an auto-off. The black and chrome matches my other kitchen appliances, so I don't have to hide it away with my other few white gadgets that don't match the rest of the kitchen.
The one issue I have with this yogurt maker: The base is large enough to hold 7 of the single-serve jars. The recipes in the book that comes with it makes enough for 7 jars. But it only comes with 6 jars. This is a little frustrating, as you end up wasting some of the milk mixture when you use it.
Replacement jars are available for order if you call Waring's customer service, and I plan on buying an extra set, anyway, so I can make the next batch before the first is used up. But I am really annoyed that they don't even give you enough jars in the first place. So now I will actually have to order 8 to make two sets of 7.
Otherwise....It's a great product.

it's really simple to use. Compared to the traditional ice cream markers this one doesnt require ice and salt. It mixes the cream until it is stiff enough for freezing. The ice cream texture is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! very little air is blended in with the cream mixture. All in all there is just enough air that the machine allows for the smooth and creamy texture. It's truly worth the purchase. My kids and I love it!

Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker 1.5 Quart Bonus 2 Freezer Bowls Review

Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt Ice Cream and Sorbet Maker 1.5 Quart Bonus 2 Freezer Bowls
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I researched ice cream makers for about a month before I purchased. The reviews were all over the place, usually the complaint was about the consistency. The consistency has to do with INGREDIENTS, not the machine itself. Thanks to one review I read, I understand that you must use PURE vanilla, not imitation vanilla for the best results -- or leave out the vanilla all together. With the Ice-20 you get a consistent, lovely soft serve quality (not runny, rather like Dairy Queen consistency). Also, using Hershey's syrup instead of melted chocolate makes a nice milk-shake, but not solid enough to be considered ice cream. It's more like a Wendy's Frosty.
I use mine to make frozen yogurt, lower-fat ice cream, and premium ice creams (with egg custard). The custard-based ice creams are the closest to commercial ice cream texture when frozen after the fact. The frozen yogurt and lower-fat content ice creams are best eaten soft serve right away. They tend to freeze hard and get a bit icy when frozen after the fact.
I have grown increasingly concerned with the ingredients in commercial ice cream, and since it's my partner's favorite treat, I wanted to be able to control the ingredients that go into it without paying an arm and a leg. Have you looked at the price of really tasty organic ice cream lately? I use strictly organic ingredients, including a specially developed low-glycemic ice cream sugar and am able to make 1 1/2 quarts of ice cream for under $3. And the taste of commercial ice cream can't compare. Besides buying commercial ice cream in the past, we also bought special toppings. No need now -- the purer the better with the Ice-20. The extra bowl is a great perk, so we can either make two flavors or we can make consecutive batches.
My only concern is the plastic blade. We use this machine daily, and sometimes twice daily, so it gets lots of use. But we take good care of it. Be SURE that the machine is running BEFORE you put the ingredients in -- otherwise you run the risk of freezing the blade and breaking it. However, I'm sure with a great company like Cuisinart behind it that we won't have trouble replacing the blade if that time comes.
In all fairness, though, I understand that you can purchase this same product at Costco for $40. But I dearly love the convenience of Amazon because I live in a remote area.
Enjoy your Ice-20. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me at jadelaine@gmail.com. I also have some great recipes for fabulous tasting, low-fat, low-sugar desserts made with this machine that are not in the machine manual and that rival anything you've ever eaten commercially.

Cuisipro Donvier Electronic Yogurt Maker Review

Cuisipro Donvier Electronic Yogurt Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After reading Mirielle Guiliano's memoir about food, entitled "French Women Don't Get Fat" and feeling annoyance over the loss of Total Greek Yogurt on the shelves of my local Whole Food (this is temporary), I decided to buy this yogurt maker and simply make my own.
The procedure is a simple one; heat some milk until bubbles appear on the side of the pan and steam actually rises; take off the stove and pop in the included thermometer. When the milk temperature lowers to a specific window indicated on the thermometer, add some milk to 2 tablespoons of purchased plain yogurt or yogurt starter. Mix and then add to the milk in the pan.
As the yogurt maker has slots for 8 containters with lids, simply pour an equal amount of the milk from the pan, put on the lids, cover the yogurt maker and plug the machine in.
The machine sits on a counter; I advise parking it in a place where the digital controls are not interferred with as just one little push will turn the whole thing off. I set my yogurt to "cook" for 14 hours. The result: Great consistancy and flavor that matches store bought without the preservatives and other additives.
The machine includes includes instructions on how to make flavored yogurt; it seems simple, but I have not tried it.
Bottom line: this machine does the trick with little or no fuss. I also purchased the yogurt cheese maker which will allow me to turn my homemade yogurt into a spread that I can use on bread in the AM. Doesn't get any better!

Reliable and temperature controlled, this electronic appliance makes great-tasting homemade yogurt using only the freshest ingredients and without artificial additives or preservatives. The yogurt maker can make up to 6 cups of yogurt with the option of creating up to eight different flavors at a time. The taste of the yogurt will vary depending on the milk used, the type of starter used, how long the yogurt is left to set, and any flavoring added. Experimenting with these different elements allows for creating favorite personal recipes.
The included thermometer stirrer takes the guesswork out of making yogurt at home. To use, place the stirrer in the milk until the red bulb is immersed. The "add starter" level on the stirrer indicates when the milk is exactly the right temperature to add the yogurt starter. The electronic yogurt maker also features a digital LCD display with an electric timer, a warning beep that sounds 5 and 10 minutes before the end of the cycle, and an automatic shut-off function at the end of the cooking cycle. The unit's safety features include its polarized plug to reduce the risk of electrical shock and a short power-supply cord to reduce risk resulting from tripping over a longer cord.
The compact unit comes with a heater base, a thermometer stirrer, eight jars with lids, and a unit cover. To clean, the yogurt maker should not be immersed in water, simply wash by hand with a mild detergent and a damp cloth. The thermometer stirrer, the cover of the yogurt maker, and the jar lids should also be washed by hand, but the yogurt containers are dishwasher-safe. A user manual with recipes is also included. The electronic yogurt maker measures 6 by 11-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Cuisinart ICE-25 Classic Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream and Sorbet Maker
Average Reviews:

This design was given to me as a gift, replacing a Krups La Glaciere that had worked well for a few years before the coolant began leaking into the freezing chamber. In terms of freezing and mixing ability - the only real differences between ice cream makers at this low-end level - the Cuisinart works very well. In fact, it seems to hold its temperature longer than the Krups model, perhaps due to the extra bit of insulation afforded by "freezing chamber in bucket" design. Also, for those familiar with the Krups, the Cuisinart actually rotates the bucket rather than the dasher; odd at first, but it works fine, and allows for faster assembling of the component parts when you're starting the freezing process. The only (minor) complaint I have is that, if you are making a sizable batch, the ice cream frequently starts to pour over the top of the dasher as it expands, even if you follow the instructions for how high the freezing chamber should be filled. It doesn't spill out of the unit, however, and the freezing process doesn't seem to be significantly disturbed. In short - the Cuisinart is worth the buy, and will produce ice cream that's as good as your recipe allows.

The product looked like it was constructed well. It worked as advertised, but was extremely loud. Loud enough to drown out the sound from my 1000 watt surround sound system turned up to 7 out of 10.
you can only run it for 45mins at a time. I ran it just long enough to make the slushie, about 25 to 30 mins. On my 9th time of using the machine it stop working. unfortunatly it took 36 days for me to use it 9 times, and of course it is only returnable for 30 days.
Now I must pay $25. to return it to the manufacturer for repair. This ups the price for the product to almost $100, hopefully I'll get more than another 9 slushies.9 slushies for $50 = $5.56 per slushie not including price of salt slushie mix and ice. I'll let you decide if thats a good deal.

This is the first time we have ever used an electric ice cream maker, so I have nothing to compare to. The motor keeps popping off when ice gets jammed around the can. I'm beginning to think the oval bucket is a bad design - there is no room for ice on the front or back, and that's where the ice gets jammed. Are we doing something wrong?
Otherwise, the ice cream came out fine. We had to stand there and hold the motor on.

I have this. It freezes the mixture into a nice soft serve in about 30 minutes. The only issue I have with it: the mixture sticks to badly to the sides of the freezing container, you either have to scrape it out, or wait for it to melt (which takes a while, the whole container has to totally warm back up). You loose a quite a bit of the mixture that way, and it locks up the machine and won't stir it anymore because of this, so I end up with about 1/2 of what I put in there.

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's inexpensive, doesn't have to be plugged in and doesn't need ice or salt--three things plenty of folks are looking for in an ice-cream maker!
The ice cream turns out pretty good (if you use a good recipe!), and it is just the right amount of ice cream for 2-4 people after dinner--just start it about 4 hours before! Also, since it's such a small amount of ice cream, you don't have to worry about hard-to-find additives that will make it still "scoopable" the next day--it will be eaten by then!
It cleans up easily, as long as you don't overfill the cups and rubberband the top on so it doesn't slip.
IT'S STILL CHEAP, THOUGH. I use mine a couple of times a week, and it definitely shows some wear (gears slip occaisionally). In my case, having this machine for a few months has convinced me that I WILL make ice cream often, and therefore a heavy-duty machine will be cost-effective for me.

This is a fun product! You do need to freeze the bowl before use, so as long as you realize that, you should be good. And my first batch was the Vanilla Bean. It was/is to die for. Had I read the directions THOROUGHLY, I would have seen that this particular recipe requires the custard (which you make from scratch) is to be chilled thoroughly prior to mixing it in the machine. This recipe takes a little time but boy is it worth it!! I am sad that the other guy left a bad review for the machine when his beef was with the company's customer service before even ORDERING it. I like the first guy's idea of buying an extra freezer bowl (if you have the storage space). They include recipes for ritas, gelattos, slushies, floats, sorbet, etc. LOTS of fun!
