Euro-Pro Triple Canister Ice Cream Maker Review

Euro-Pro Triple Canister Ice Cream Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this unit because we were delighted to find an ice cream maker that allows you to make SMALL amounts, and even better, three different flavors (it allows you to make three distinct pints). We used it relentlessly for two weeks, and couldn't manage to make anything thicker than a milkshake. Worse yet, most of the results, when frozen, were like the unfortunate consequences of melted and refrozen ice cream: you get a sweet treat that's as hard as a rock, and impossible to serve unless you have an icepick and a sledgehammer! We weren't willing to put egg in our recipes, but wondering if that was the problem, we tried a vegan egg replacement product: that ended up our most successful batch, but by that point we'd already felt as if we'd had to fight too hard with the darned thing, and we didn't want to be forced to make only recipes that called for eggs, so we returned it. We just ordered a Cuisinart ICE-20 from Amazon to replace it, because a friend has that same unit and it makes absolutely delicious, perfect ice cream! She's made many recipes _without_ egg, and they come out fine.

Rival GC9155 Gel Canister 1-1/2-Quart 2-Piece Electric Ice-Cream Maker Review

Rival GC9155 Gel Canister 1-1/2-Quart 2-Piece Electric Ice-Cream Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first got this I followed the directions on the box for chocolate cookie ice cream exactly (which specified refrigerating the mixture for 30 minutes and freezing the gel canisters for 24 hours). This gave me something at about the consistency of a runny milkshake. My second try involved refrigerating the mixture for 18 hours and freezing the gel canisters for around 36 hours. That was more of a thick milkshake.
My winning formula was refrigerating the mix overnight and freezing the canisters for a week in a 0 degree (F) deep freezer. This produced fairly soft ice cream, but still definitely ice cream (it did harden in the freezer afterward). I haven't yet experimented to see what the minimum time for a refreeze is, but bringing them down from room temperature the first time took a very long time.
If you want to make smallish batches of ice cream fairly often, then this is the ice cream maker for you. It doesn't require you to get bagged ice to cool the mixture, and the gel canisters collapse to take up less space in your freezer if you just store them there full time. If, on the other hand, you want large batches or only want to make ice cream for special occasions you're probably better off with a bagged ice and rock salt model.

It's not the icecream, but the family time spent together that makes his item grand! In the winter, I fill the center container with frosting to decorate cupcakes for the holidays. In the fall, we switch to coating and decorating caramel apples. In the summer, I fill the center bowl with salsa or melted cheese, and break out the chips and veggies! Monterrey MT45151 Blender and Smoothie Maker with 48-Ounce Plastic Jar and Serving Spigot Review

Monterrey MT45151 Blender and Smoothie Maker with 48-Ounce Plastic Jar and Serving Spigot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this unit to make smoothies, as I did not have a lot to spend at the time, and I believe that as long as you treat the unit with care, it should last for awhile.
It actually has the equivalent of 6 speeds, as on the right side is has the 3 speed and pulse buttons, and on the left, a High and Low button: 3 LOW AND 3 HIGH speeds.
The Blades in this unit are EXTREMELY sharp, and that is likely the key to it working as good as it does!
I will throw in a bunch of Grapes, a whole Kiwi, a couple of Kale leaves, a handful of Spinach, a half an Orange, a half a Banana and a whole but small Pear, 4 big ice cubes and a cup of water.
I start it on low, (or sometimes repeatedly hit the pulse button) where it pulls everything down in about 15 seconds, and then I will shift it to the highest speed to grind everything to a liquid, which takes about a minute and a half.
After running it that long, the motor seems to emit a strange odor, but that seems to be decreasing. It is pretty noisy on the highest speed.
I then take the blade unit off of the bottom of the container and rinse everything thoroughly, then let air dry.
The spigot top will unscrew and can be cleaned this way, but since I never use it, I keep it closed, then just open it when rinsing.
The only part that is seemingly vulnerable to a leak is the gasket that goes between the blade assembly and the container. If you over-tighten, it will deform and leak. If you don't tighten it enough, it will leak. It took me a day or two to figure how much to tighten it. You can see the gasket and it's contact to the container while tightening. If it starts to appear wiggly, you are over-tightening it. The seal between the actual blade shaft and base has not leaked.
I know this is not a Vita-Mix or Blendtec, but it will make good smoothies with that crazy sharp blade, and grind ice to non-existence in short order.
The only question now is, "how long will it last?", especially in daily use.
I bought this after seeing a Blendtec demo at Costco and wanted to see how I would fare personally by adding fruits and vegetables to my diet each day via smoothies, and I can tell you that I have lost 3 pounds this week so far, and feel absolutely great as compared to the sluggish me before.
The price I paid was about an 1/8th of the Blendtec, but don't think for one minute that the quality is anywhere close. It works, but for how long???

Whether used for breakfast smoothies before work, protein shakes after a workout, or frozen cocktails with friends on a Friday night, this convenient appliance might be best left out on the counter for easy, everyday access. Simple to use, just add liquids, then ice or frozen ingredients, and with the lid in place, choose from low, medium, or high push-button speed settings--or "pulse" for short bursts of power. The unit's 450-watt motor and ice-crushing blades ensure fast blending, while its integrated stir stick forces ingredients into the mixing blades for smooth, even results. Furthermore, the blender comes with a large 48-ounce plastic blending jar, which features a secure-fitting lid, a non-drip pouring spout, and a mess-free dispensing spigot for serving thick, blended drinks right into a glass. With its contemporary, easy-to-clean design, the blender and smoothie maker measures 8-2/7 by 6-1/2 by 15-1/2 inches.

We purchased our DeLonghi after sampling ice cream made from my Sister-In-Law's Cuisnart machine. Nice fresh ice cream unlike the old days where you had to manually crank a handle...and the results were mixed at best.
Comparing the DeLonghi to the Cuisnart....the DeLonghi is much quiter. And that is a big plus when you have visitors who you don't want to be disturbed and want to entertain. Also the texture of the ice cream is better.
Replying to another customer review appearing for this machine...it DOES make treats with milk and skim milk. All without all the preservatives you will find in over the counter frozen treats from stores. ...
Our first batch didn't turn out great...but it was related to not being familar with our new machine. Ever since...success.
The secret to making a firm treat is to mix your ingredients beforehand and freeze/refrig before adding to the ice cream maker. Add it to the machine and let it work away. Then if you prefer a firmer treat, freeze further for a few hours to overnight.
Another suggestion is to buy the Ben and Jerry ice cream guide. It also states the innovation which I just mentioned above...and gives you many other helpful tips which will solve any issues you might encounter.
Gelato, Sorbet, Ice Cream, Smoothies. All came out well.

George Foreman GR10AWHT Champ Grill Review

George Foreman GR10AWHT Champ Grill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Finally, a product that lives up to all its hype and doesn't end up wasting precious kitchen space like the food processors, bread machines, etc. we have bought in the past but all too often turn out to be too much of a pain to clean and assemble. I've had mine for over a year now...we live in an apartment where kitchen space is at a premium. On hot days, if I turn on the oven or stove, it heats the whole kitchen and half our place up. To top it off, I'm a vegetarian -- hubby is not. The George Foreman Champ grill is terrific -- I buy those extra-lean premade frozen hamburger patties at Safeway, and even Jim (whose specialty is cereal with milk) can get motivated enough to plug the grill in, heat it up and toss a patty, or an Italian sausage, boneless chicken breast, etc. for a quick lunch, dinner or snack. Best of all, no splatter of grease like you would get using a skillet - the grease just runs off! Besides cooking for hubby, I have also used it to make super GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES, and Gardenburgers come out great. And that non-stick surface is great -- so easy to clean! I just can't say enough good things about the George Foreman Grill. I've recommended it to countless people and even bought several for presents (my sister and brother-in-law bought about 15 of them last Christmas for relative presents!). So buy it already! It's great!

Salton YM9 1-Quart Yogurt Maker Review

Salton YM9 1-Quart Yogurt Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Look...making yogurt isn't that compicated. All you need is a good starter culture, a stable and appropriate temperature and clean equipment so you get the proper cultures growing. The Salton 1-quart does a beautiful job and you can't beat the price. If you've never made your own yogurt before, this is the unit to buy. Don't spend tons of money on a piece of equipment that does nothing more than keep the milk warm for a few hours. Realize, it is much easier to just buy yogurt at the supermarket. But if you don't like keep buying little plastic containers, and if you don't mind going to just a little effort to make your own foods, you'll enjoy making yogurt. I like to use milk straight from the bulk tank at a local dairy farm and either organic Stonyfield (NH)or organic Butterworks (VT) yogurt as a starter. Homemade yogurt doesn't always have the homogenous and solid consistency of store-bought, but I've had very good results (quite comparable with commercial yogurts) with the Salton, plus I can use whatever flavorings I want from real maple syrup to my favorite jams. I even use the yogurt in place of sour cream. The possibilities with home-made yogurt are almost unlimited!

Viatek Duo Treat Ice Cream Maker Review

Viatek Duo Treat Ice Cream Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The air of the normal freezer (at least my freezer) is not cold enough to freeze the mixture fast enough to make smooth ice cream. It doesn't mix fast enough to keep the outer, frozen parts of the mixture stirred in to the center so it stops when the outer part is icy and the center is still liquid - which then freezes too hard to be called ice cream. Also, the cold causes the batteries to drain faster. Can be fun if you have kids and want to make a couple of flavours at once but if you want real ice cream, get a real ice cream maker.
Edited (5 months later) to add: for awhile the Duo Treat was not available. Now that it is available again they have a different picture for it. It's possible they've come out with a new model that addresses some of the problems listed above (then again, maybe not).

Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker 1.5 Quart Bonus 2 Freezer Bowls Review

Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt Ice Cream and Sorbet Maker 1.5 Quart Bonus 2 Freezer Bowls
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I researched ice cream makers for about a month before I purchased. The reviews were all over the place, usually the complaint was about the consistency. The consistency has to do with INGREDIENTS, not the machine itself. Thanks to one review I read, I understand that you must use PURE vanilla, not imitation vanilla for the best results -- or leave out the vanilla all together. With the Ice-20 you get a consistent, lovely soft serve quality (not runny, rather like Dairy Queen consistency). Also, using Hershey's syrup instead of melted chocolate makes a nice milk-shake, but not solid enough to be considered ice cream. It's more like a Wendy's Frosty.
I use mine to make frozen yogurt, lower-fat ice cream, and premium ice creams (with egg custard). The custard-based ice creams are the closest to commercial ice cream texture when frozen after the fact. The frozen yogurt and lower-fat content ice creams are best eaten soft serve right away. They tend to freeze hard and get a bit icy when frozen after the fact.
I have grown increasingly concerned with the ingredients in commercial ice cream, and since it's my partner's favorite treat, I wanted to be able to control the ingredients that go into it without paying an arm and a leg. Have you looked at the price of really tasty organic ice cream lately? I use strictly organic ingredients, including a specially developed low-glycemic ice cream sugar and am able to make 1 1/2 quarts of ice cream for under $3. And the taste of commercial ice cream can't compare. Besides buying commercial ice cream in the past, we also bought special toppings. No need now -- the purer the better with the Ice-20. The extra bowl is a great perk, so we can either make two flavors or we can make consecutive batches.
My only concern is the plastic blade. We use this machine daily, and sometimes twice daily, so it gets lots of use. But we take good care of it. Be SURE that the machine is running BEFORE you put the ingredients in -- otherwise you run the risk of freezing the blade and breaking it. However, I'm sure with a great company like Cuisinart behind it that we won't have trouble replacing the blade if that time comes.
In all fairness, though, I understand that you can purchase this same product at Costco for $40. But I dearly love the convenience of Amazon because I live in a remote area.
Enjoy your Ice-20. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me at jadelaine@gmail.com. I also have some great recipes for fabulous tasting, low-fat, low-sugar desserts made with this machine that are not in the machine manual and that rival anything you've ever eaten commercially.

The batteries cost $15 a pack, and since the thing goes into the freezer, where you aren't there to know if the batteries died, you'd probably replace them often to avoid wasting a whole afternoon waiting for ice cream that isn't to be. That gets spendy.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Panasonic BH-941P Ice Cream Maker

Tidy, cordless, and easy to put into action, this Panasonic ice cream maker is a refreshing alternative to its hulking all-in-one countertop cousins. Though it requires more steps than the models where you throw in ingredients and go, this little maker is both smart and efficient, making up to 3 cups of ice cream or sorbet in a few hours. Combining a stainless steel bowl and a battery-powered mixing unit, the appliance features a dual-fin stirring spatula to thoroughly mix ingredients during freezing. A microprocessor gauges the consistency of the dessert as it hardens, so no monitoring is necessary. The battery pack is compact and removable, and the other components feel sturdy and well designed.
Included with the ice cream maker is a clear step-by-step instruction guide and a colorful booklet of recipes to get you started. Most of these require mixing or beating of ingredients before placement in the freezer bowl, but the labor is far from intensive. Once ingredients are ready, simply turn on the power, put the bowl in the freezer, and come back in 3 to 5 hours. Impressively compact for easy storage, the ice cream maker measures just 5-1/4 inches high and 6-1/2 inches in diameter. Panasonic includes a one-year warranty.--Emily Bedard

It's inexpensive, doesn't have to be plugged in and doesn't need ice or salt--three things plenty of folks are looking for in an ice-cream maker!
The ice cream turns out pretty good (if you use a good recipe!), and it is just the right amount of ice cream for 2-4 people after dinner--just start it about 4 hours before! Also, since it's such a small amount of ice cream, you don't have to worry about hard-to-find additives that will make it still "scoopable" the next day--it will be eaten by then!
It cleans up easily, as long as you don't overfill the cups and rubberband the top on so it doesn't slip.
IT'S STILL CHEAP, THOUGH. I use mine a couple of times a week, and it definitely shows some wear (gears slip occaisionally). In my case, having this machine for a few months has convinced me that I WILL make ice cream often, and therefore a heavy-duty machine will be cost-effective for me.
But for people who will only use the machine a few times a month and are on a budget, this ice-cream maker is ideal!

I was so excited to finally receive this ice cream maker in the mail that I did it all: I make sorbet, frozen yogurt and ice cream. All came out very well. Cuisinart ICE-21TQ Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream and Sorbet Maker, Turquoise
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is so easy and fun to use...never going to eat store bought ice cream again! Have had this for less than two weeks and have made ice cream 5 times already. First time was just an experiment using things I happened to have in the fridge which did not even include regular dairy, I only had coconut milk, and I ended up with a strawberry sorbet kind of concoction that was darned good. Since then I have followed recipes for coconut pineapple custard, rum raisin, chocolate mint and vanilla custard. Each one has been outstanding and far exceeds similar flavors I have tasted in store bought, not to mention no more high-fructose corn syrup and artificial flavors and colorings. It is so easy to use and 4 out of the five times the ice cream was done in under 10 minutes. The exception was the rum raisin, the alcohol content might have slowed the freezing process down, but it still set-up in less than 20 minutes. I live in South Florida and have no problem getting the insulated bowl to freeze solid. I always make sure my base is well chilled too. When it is first done it freezes to a texture a little bit harder than soft serve frozen custard, which is delicious, but after it has been stored in the freezer it becomes more of a traditional hard ice cream texture.
I have wanted an ice cream maker for a while as I am planning on going dairy free in the near future and the coconut milk and almond milk ice creams are soooo expensive I though making my own would be the best way to go. After much research I had debated between this and the big soft-serve dispensing, mix-in machine also made by Cuisinart but decided on this one because simpler is usually better...plus this color aqua is so fun. I am very pleased with this purchase...one of the best self-bought birthday presents I ever made. I think some kind of frozen drink might be my next experiment...now if I can only decide which flavor to try...mudslide, creamsicle, frosty pina colada...

I purchased this after much debate about whether or not I needed a two quart ice cream maker or just go with the original Cuisinart $49.95 one. I am so glad i bought this one. It is so great. Easy to use, makes alot of ice cream,so sleek looking.
I have a tiny kicthen and everytime I turn around I am buying something that will clutter my counterspace, but I have to say this I don't mind. It is square, not to bulky and the cord fits nicely up inside the machine. It doesn't dangle or anything. It's right next to my KitchenAid.
I have made two recipes out of the manual that comes with the machine. I usually don't like "manual recipes" however, these are fantastic. The Mango Gelato was a huge hit with family and friends. One girl who doesn't like ice cream, liked it. The simple ice creams that dont require making a custard, you just mix all the ingredients together and freeze, I was thinking it would be terrible. It wasn't, so you can make ice cream in 30minutes from start to finish with those recipes.
I do keep the bowl in the freezer like others suggested with the smaller ice cream maker. It has been very useful to have it already frozen when I am ready to make ice cream.
As far as noise, it is not as quiet as I thought, but don't let that scare you. It's not like turning on a blender and leaving it running for 25 minutes. It's not an annoying noise. Not like the old ice cream makers with the ice and stuff. It is fun to watch it churn too. So the noise just fades to the background.
It's very interactive and a great thing to do with kids and company.
I really can't say enough good. One of the best appliance investments I have mad yet.
