I purchased this brewer from Target although you can also get it from Hammacher Schlemmer. After I brewed the first pitcher of tea, I set it on the counter and the entire bottom fell out of the pitcher. There was hot, wet sugar everywhere: on the counters, inside the drawers and the cabinets, and on all their contents. I learned that as often as you try to clean up wet sugar, you will always have sugar left. I called the company and asked if this happened frequently. The rep said that it did not happen often, but that it did happen. I asked if it would happen again, and she assured me that it would not happen with the pitcher she was sending. And the new one has been fine. I think that if I were buying one of these machines that I would ask for the unbreakable pitcher to be sent before I tried it.
However, there are many other problems too. When sugar is put in the basket, the company recommends that you wet the basket so that the sugar won't fall into the pitcher prematurely. That is not the problem. The problem is that the sugar does not completely dissolve while the tea is brewing through it. So you end up with a glob of wet sugar still in the basket. The baskets are badly made so that tea and sugar collect in the bottom between two pieces plastic in each basket. So when you try to remove the baskets after brewing, tea and sugar pour from under the baskets. My solution to this is to always have a paper towel under the pitcher. Not pretty. Also during this process, tea and especially sugar splash on to the sides of the tea maker. There is a brew strength dial, but I don't think that this makes any difference. I wanted this set because I think that it looks better than the others available and the pitcher is glass. But the problems far outweigh the attractive looks and anyway that is greatly diminished by the paper towels and the splashes all down the sides.
My advice is to stick with the Mr Coffee 2 quart unit which I have used for years with no problems at all. The bright aqua-ness of it seems so minor in hindsight.
Update... The new "unbreakable' pitcher has just cracked. This is the second one. Do NOT buy this pitcher!!

Coffee drinkers have their automatic brewers, why shouldn't tea drinkers? Ideal for family gatherings or summer picnics, this versatile machine makes it easy to brew delicious iced tea. The unit's brew-strength selector allows for accommodating individual preferences, while its timed brewing and steeping settings take the guesswork out of creating the perfect pitcher of tea. Use the machine's sweetener chamber to conveniently dissolve sweetener into the beverage, or remove it for an unsweetened variety. The iced-tea maker's reusable stainless-steel filter works with both bagged and loose tea, and the machine shuts off automatically at the end of the brewing cycle for safety and peace of mind. Other highlights include a 2-3/4-quart plastic pitcher, an "on" indicator light, a handy drip tray, and a helpful instruction manual for getting started. The iced-tea maker measures approximately 10-1/5 by 7-2/3 by 15-1/5 inches.
